Tech Tips

One of the biggest challenges for online marketers today is creating engaging content that entices readers to share or take a positive action based on the content provided. Social media sites have made it extremely easy for you to connect with real people and create your own network. That being the case, if you want to promote your product or service via social media then the only ingredient missing is viral content.

By definition, viral content is noteworthy, remarkable, funny, shocking, interesting, controversial, and easy to share or a combination of all of these factors.

If you want to create viral content for social media then it’s a good idea to keep in mind the following:

1. Forget about Traditional Article Marketing

Article marketing is the practice of creating content to promote a specific product or service, the problem with most article marketing is that people tend to create fluffy things without much content at all. When creating viral marketing materials think more along the lines of delivering solid “punch-lines” and to-the-point information. The shorter the better.

2. Develop a solid idea

Spend time trying to develop content that sets you apart from all the web noise. There is nothing more annoying than reading the same rehashed ideas over and over. A bit of research can take you a long way.

A great way to develop your ideas is by participating in discussions and social sites. See what is being talked about and try to spot a common topic of discussion. If you are providing a service that is related to this discussion and you take the time to create relevant and provoking content then you are that much closer to having a small army of people disseminating your ideas in autopilot.

3. Write a solid headline and make your content easy to read

Boom! You just created a remarkable piece content however; your headline is the main factor that determines whether or not your idea will be successful. Remember that you only have a few seconds to catch people’s attention, so make a headline that is short and compelling. If you don’t know what a headline should look like, all you have to do is to visit a magazine stand. The magazines which are still in business are still in the game because they have mastered the art of writing compelling headlines.

If the content you are creating happens to be an article; then for goodness sake make it easy to read! Nothing turns people off more than seeing massive blocks of text. Use paragraphs and proper punctuation, it will amaze you how using bullets can turn your article into a far more attractive piece of content.

4. Come up with a clear call to action

Do you want people to share your content? Do you want them to +1 it on Google plus? You want to Digg it? – And simply create a call to action!

This is such a simple concept however many people fail at creating viral content for social media simply because they forget to include a clear call to action.

Remember, successful social media campaigns follow the K.I.S.S. principle so don’t try to reinvent the wheel.
